Orion

What is Orion?

Orion is a high performance readout system with modular architecture based on trigger-tagging approach and unidirectional data-flow suitable for high speed FELIX readout [link].

Orion is the first readout software that:

  • demonstrated readout with FelixClient (FELIX-Star) for Pixel & Strips [link];
  • performed readout using 4x1, 2x1 data merging mode for ITkPix with FELIX-Star [link];
  • is the only ITk DAQ based on a trigger-tagging approach that allows to perform fast and stable readout with FELIX [link1, link2]. In particular, trigger-tagging approached made Orion the first readout software that achieved:
    • stable readout for ITkPix with FelixClient (FELIX-Star),
    • stable scans of RD53A with FELIX,
    • stable scans of Strips (fixed bin migration issues) for FELIX.
